- This really isn't a stupid question. I asked this question for
- over six months when I was new to C back in the 80s and no one
- knew until finally a college prof did.

- In my opinion, the use of "foo" should be discouraged and shows a
- lack of appreciation of good software engineering practices. Only
- good, mnemonic names should be used in software and "foo" can
- never qualify, even in abstract academic examples.
